SEMESTER-LONG GROUPS

Bible Study: Prophets
Monday, September 17 (9:30-11:00am) / Judy Jones, facilitator

Bible Study: Invitation to Psalms
This 10-week study invites us to engage the Psalms at the deepest levels as we relearn the lyrics of ancient songs and pray alongside God’s people throughout the ages. The writers of the Psalms can be heard both praising God’s faithfulness and lamenting God’s absence; both thanking God and complaining to God; both praying hope and crying in fear. This study group begins:
Wednesday, September 12 (9:30-11:00am) / Helen Barnhardt, facilitator

Bible Study: Women of the Old Testament    God's Unique Creation
This Women’s Study group will use A Faith of Her Own: Women of the Old Testament by J. Ellsworth Kalas to learn from the lives and experience of women crucial to the story of Scripture. We will look into the biblical story to learn about them and from them, including their defining characteristics, how they fit into as well as shaped the Old Testament story, and how their stories of strength, courage, perseverance, and faith have shaped our lives as believers today. Come rediscover such ladies as Eve, Sarah, Rebecca, Deborah, Ruth, Esther, and more. This 8-week study begins.
Tuesday, September 11 (10:00-11:30 pm) Nancy Cannon, facilitator

God's Unique Creation
Each of us was given certain personality traits and Spiritual gifts by our creator. In this exciting small group, come discover your own unique Spiritual gifts and complete the Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator. With these results, you can learn why you do what you do and have interests in serving God and others in particular ways. Dr. Nations is certified to administer these personal assessments and has been helping reveal God’s unique creation with individuals and groups for many years. Cost for this course is $__________. This 4-week study begins:
Tuesday, September 10 (12:00-1:30) / Dr. Bob Nations, facilitators

Dinner for Eight

SPIRIT-LIFE GROUP (Sunday Evenings)

The Gospel According to the Hunger Games
The Hunger Games trilogy of books is now a blockbuster movie series. Perhaps you have read the trilogy, watched the movie, or simply heard about the excitement. With this movie produced in North Carolina, two of our very own United Methodist Ministers have developed a discussion guide looking at the biblical and spiritual themes found in the storyline. Using their assessment and other resources currently being developed, we will explore together what we can gain from this pop-literature. Perhaps you will want to read the book again (or for the first time) in preparation for this small group. We will plan to watch the movie together during our first two sessions. This 6-week small group begins:
Sunday, September 9 (5-7pm)/ Rev. Jonathan Brake, facilitator

QUARTERLY GROUP

Reading Group: Weavings
Are you familiar with the quarterly publication called “Weavings?” The title seems strange until you realize the publication explores how God’s life and human life are “woven” together in the world. Published four times a year, each issue focuses on a central theme and includes articles of a broad range of Christian writers. Each issue provides reading that leaves you wanting to compare insights with other readers…that is why we have a “reading group” called Weavings! Meetings for the 2012-2013 year are scheduled for Thursdays:
2012: September 27;  2013: November 29, February 28, May 30 (6:30-8:00 pm) / Barbara Sterchi, facilitator
